Dr. Rahul Mannan, a distinguished pathologist and researcher at the University of Michigan, joined the Department of Pathology in 2018 following a decade of clinical practice and medical education. Shifting his focus to research, Dr. Mannan has made groundbreaking contributions in molecular pathology, particularly in cancer biomarker discovery. His identification of LINC01187 and 2SC as diagnostic biomarkers for chromophobe and FH-deficient renal cell carcinomas has been transformative, with these biomarkers now incorporated into clinical diagnostics at MLabs. He also spearheaded the development of a state-of-the-art histopathology lab, positioning it as a center of innovation. His future work aims to integrate spatial transcriptomics and artificial intelligence to further advance precision medicine.
In his clinical role at the Michigan Oncology Sequencing Center (MI-ONCOSEQ), Dr. Mannan ensures the integrity of genetic profiling for cancer patients, overseeing rigorous sample validation and quality management processes. His leadership extended to the MyDrug clinical project, where he directed the preparation and analysis of multiple myeloma samples, further advancing personalized oncology.
As a committed educator, Dr. Mannan mentors students across all academic levels and developed a comprehensive laboratory curriculum for undergraduates and graduates. He has launched initiatives such as a summer lecture series and actively contributes to STEM education programs, inspiring future medical professionals and researchers.
