This book summarizes the essentials of Biochemistry with Clinical Correlations. The purpose of this book is to present a clear discussion of Biochemistry in relation to physiological processes occurring at the cellular levels and to cite examples of deviant biochemical processes in different clinical conditions.
This book contains evaluations of clinical cases in sections, namely history, physical examination, laboratory workup and questions related to the diagnosis of the case. A reader shall go through history to make a preliminary outline of the disorder, and then follow the physical examination findings and investigations results to reach at a presumptive diagnosis. This will help to sharpen the clinical skills by simulating a clinical “reaching at a diagnosis” experience.
In each of the case details, the fundamentals of the basic defect, the entire format of pathophysiology and the clinically relevant details have been provided. Each case study ends up in a clinical note and a short summary in the form of important points, given the name as “clinical pearls”. This will help the readers to quickly revise the contents. Many alternative unsolved case studies have been provided at the end of the book which would help the students to evaluate their trained skills gained through the course of this book.
It is my hope that this work will be of immense value to those embarking on the exciting experience of learning Biochemistry for the first time and to those who are returning to the subject in which the information is expanding so rapidly. I would look forward to the comments, criticisms, and suggestions from students, faculty, and professionals who would use this book.
